The youth research project aimed to explore the requirements and needs of visually blind people in Kerala, India, and compare the solutions available in the United States. The project is plan to conduct a comprehensive review of the literature on the subject and conducted interviews with visually impaired individuals in Kerala and the USA.

To start a employability course for the visually impaired in Kerala.

The disabled have been one of the most neglected and marginalized groups in our society. The new technology and the various paradigms of accessibility it provides to them has improved the condition of the visually impaired and the other disabled in an earlier unimaginable way. Today, if they are provided with assistive technological apparatuses in an environment of reasonable accommodation and accessibility, the blind can make miracles and can do almost everything that the sighted do on the Computer with minor adaptations and modifications. Objectives
1. To train the visually impaired in the most advanced areas suitable to various employment sectors in Computer and other accessible devices.
2. To give the visually impaired job seekers awareness and practical training in orientation and mobility.
3. To train the visually impaired in personality skills.
4. To give them basic training in communication.
5. To give the participants special training in areas that they specially demand.
6. To expose the trainees to other potential employees already working in various employment sectors.
7. To expose the visually impaired to various aspects of technology that can be useful in their choice of employment and carrier development.
8. To give the participants advanced training in specific areas, if they demand.
9. To increase the confidence and skill of the visually impaired and make them potential employment seekers.
10. Giving the visually impaired awareness and exposure to the use of assistive technology as a part of their life skill accomplishment.

AWAKE – Youth Program for the Kerala State

Awake is a 5 yr program we designed for students from 5th – 8th graders .The pilot program was inaugurated by K. Jayakumar IAS at Holy Family School , Kainakari Allepey., Kerala on January 5th 2023.The school teachers are voluntarily working towards developing curriculum for this program during the month of January- March 2023.
This has three major components to prepare the students as global citizens and brand ambassadors of their own brith place. The areas are

3. Social Commitment Programs.( Together we Win)

Kerala Flood Relief

Kerala witnessed the worst flood of the century in 2018 with severe damage taking a toll on many. Through this period, over a million people were displaced and their livelihood snatched. With 445 dead, life for those residing in Kerala would take a sharp turn. Additionally, lives were in danger as people were (and some still) left without shelter, food and drinking water. Kerala is wide open in the face of vulnerability.

Francis

Due to an accident several moons ago, Francis’s life has taken a turn for the worse– he is bedridden with the stress and anxiety of the accident holding is shoulders down. Francis has to go through every day while remaining in bed; he’s growing weaker by the week.

He is survived by his wife and two kids. With the aid and gentle care of his wife and two children, Francis is just able to survive. But his family is unsure of how to further support him and even themselves without a proper place to stay. Francis’s family is facing a stubborn dilemma with less hope as the days pass on.

Punyam provided Francis with a temporary housing worth 1 lakh / 100,000 rupees, for Francis to get better.

Tharavadu

Tharavadu : a home for homeless people – Punyam’s dream project!

Tharavadu can be simply defined as a place for the homeless in the heart of Alleppey, Kerala. You may believe this to resemble an elderly, nursing home or an orphanage. Quite the contrary, place where youth or adults can get off the streets and find a temporary, safe haven. A heritage home where people of all ages can live and relax among the calming nature and cooling river banks.

As of 30th June 2018, Punyam wrapped up its contributions and affiliations to the Tharavadu Project (working to create a better environment for all). Punyam is no longer taking any donations for Tharavadu due to a successful mission accomplished.

Cow Project -Manikutty

In celebration of Women’s day Punyam would like to express their gratitude to BAMA (Bay Area Malayali Association) for extending their hand to help one of our families. With their help, we are able to give a family, who has faced many hardships, a beautiful cow.
This very special family’s main breadwinner is a young transgender girl, who stopped her studies to take care of her cows, hens and goats for a living.
